What this job actually involves

Knotweed for landlords — how it works here

Knotweed for landlords in Wirral

Older rented villas and terraces are places where knotweed is regularly found. We survey single properties or whole portfolios across the Wirral, run treatment and keep a record per address, so there is a plan ready before a sale, a refinance or a tenant complaint.

Step by step

How knotweed for landlords works with us

  1. Send a photo.

One leaf, one stem, by message or the contact form. It costs nothing.

  2. We survey it.

If it is knotweed we visit, measure the stand and record what is nearby.

  3. Spray or excavate.

A programme over several seasons, or a dig-out if time is tight.

  4. Plan and follow-up.

A written plan for your records and your lender, with return visits until it stops.

Questions about knotweed for landlords

Can treatment go ahead with tenants in place?
Yes. Visits are short and we arrange access with the tenant.
How do I know if it is Japanese knotweed?
The stem tells you most: hollow like bamboo, speckled purple, growing in a zig-zag with a node at every kink. Leaves are broad with a flat base. You get small cream flower sprays in late summer and brown dead canes in winter. Sending us a photo is quicker than guessing.
Is it illegal to have knotweed in my garden?
Having it is not against the law. Allowing it to spread into the wild is, and cut material is controlled waste. If it passes to a neighbour you may be open to a claim.
Will knotweed stop me getting a mortgage?
Not by itself. Most lenders accept a professional survey, a treatment plan and a guarantee that can be passed on to the buyer.
How long does treatment take?
Spraying normally spans three to five growing seasons followed by monitoring. Excavation is done in days but costs more.
Can I just dig it out myself?
It is best not to. Small bits of rhizome regrow, and the soil cannot go to a skip or the garden waste bin without proper handling.
